§ 12-41. Definitions.

  • For purposes of this article, the following definitions shall apply unless a different meaning is plainly required:

    Automobile graveyard means any establishment or place of business which is maintained, used, or operated for storing, keeping, buying, or selling, of five (5) or more wrecked, scrapped, ruined, or dismantled motor vehicles.

    Establishment shall mean a place of business or residence, and everything connected with it.

    Expansion shall mean any increase in the land area of an existing junkyard or automobile graveyard beyond the physical boundaries in the use at the effective date of this article.

    Junk means old or scrapped copper, brass, rope, rags, batteries, paper, trash, rubber debris, and waste, or junked, dismantled, or wrecked automobiles, or parts thereof, or iron, steel, and other old or scrapped ferrous or nonferrous materials.

    Junkyard means an establishment or place of business which is maintained, used, or operated for storing, keeping, buying, or selling junk, or for the maintenance or operation of an automobile graveyard. The term shall also include garbage dumps and sanitary fills.
